Faded blue grid

As we make the transition into the final quarter of the year it has been another action packed month for the teams in all 3 states. It was a month of work events, new arrivals and a notable departure, here is how it unfolded.

Fuel Prices & The Construction Industry: What it means for us

Article content

The Australian construction industry is navigating one of its most challenging cost environments in recent memory. Following geopolitical conflict in the Middle East in early 2026, petrol and diesel prices surged rapidly. With construction being one of the most diesel-dependent sectors in Australia, that volatility isn't just felt at the pump, it flows through the entire supply chain.

Suppliers have flagged major price increases across petroleum-based materials including PVC, polyethylene and polypropylene piping, with freight charges rising alongside them. The Housing Industry Association has warned that sustained fuel price increases could add $8,000 to $15,000 to the cost of building a new home. This comes on top of an already fragile sector, with 3,596 building industry insolvencies recorded in 2025 and Australia's National Housing Accord target of 1.2 million new homes already under threat.

In Focus: Labour Hire & Traffic Control

The impact is just as real for our people on the ground. Labour hire workers and traffic controllers are often travelling significant distances to reach sites daily, and with petrol up roughly 50 cents per litre since late 2025, those commuting costs are adding up fast. For traffic control operators, the vehicle is the worksite. Fuel isn't a background cost, it's central to every job. Thin margins across the industry mean these increases are difficult to absorb, placing pressure on both operators and the workers they deploy.

What is Being Done

The federal government has responded by halving the fuel excise for three months, eliminating the heavy vehicle road user charge temporarily, and launching ATO repayment plans for businesses impacted by surging fuel costs. At Point Force Group, we're closely monitoring these developments and remain committed to supporting our people and clients through this period of uncertainty.

Team Spotlight: Sarah

Article content

With over 5 years of experience overseeing all behind the scenes elements of the business, Sarah told us all about what makes a successful team, why Point Force stands out, and her tendency to get stuck down research rabbit holes.

How long have you worked in this industry, and what drew you to it?

I've been working in admin, operations and HR for over 10 years now though only the last 5 within labour hire/construction. Honestly, I didn't set out with a plan to land in this industry - I kept finding myself drawn to roles where no two days are the same and there's always a problem to solve. Labour hire in particular moves fast, and I thrive in that kind of environment.

What do you find most rewarding about your role at Point Force Group?

The scope of it, genuinely. I sit across HR, payroll, systems, and cross-entity admin/support for a group spanning Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, so there's always something meaningful to get stuck into. But if I had to pick one thing, it's the people. Watching the team grow and develop, and knowing that the support I provide and the systems we build behind the scene help them to reach their full potential - that's what I find most satisfying.

What does a strong and successful team look like to you, and how do you help build it?

For me, a strong team is built on ownership, confidence and communication. People need to feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions and flagging problems early and this only happens when the culture actually supports it. It's about having the right systems and support in place so people can do their best work. Watching someone grow into a role and back themselves more over time is genuinely one of the most rewarding parts of the job. I try to build that by being really intentional about onboarding, setting clear expectations, and making time for honest, open conversations. I also think recognising effort matters a lot, people need to know their work is seen and appreciated!

What makes Point Force Group stand out from other companies you've worked with?

The pace and the people, PFG is a place where things move quickly! The group has grown significantly, in the 5 years I have been here. But what sets it apart for me is that it's still a business where relationships matter. The directors are accessible, the team is close-knit, and there's a real sense of respect and understanding company wide - you are treated as a person first. It is also really exciting and motivating to feel like you are contributing to the success of a great company with great values.

Outside of work, what are a few things people might not know about you?

Last year I became a mum to a little one who keeps me very, very busy... so life outside of work has simultaneously been looking a bit more chaotic and a lot more magical lately! With any spare time I love reading and recently I've been getting a lot more into cooking! I'm also a bit of a research rabbit-hole person - if I want to know something, I will absolutely spend three hours (or three days) reading about it and learning everything I can about it. My family & team at work finds it both useful and exhausting!

Farewell Kenny

Article content

It hasn't just been a month of new arrivals, however. We have also said goodbye to a hugely valued member of the team in Kenny. Over his four years with the company, Kenny was a key part of the Victorian Labour Operations Team and a driving force behind its continued growth.

Kenny was well known for his popularity with clients, who appreciated his consistency, reliability, and the genuine rapport he built with them over the years. He sometimes had a maverick way of doing things, and more often than not, it ended in great results. The combination of character and capability made him a standout presence both on-site and within the wider team.

He will be greatly missed by everyone at the company, and we wish him all the best in his next venture.

Point Force Group Family Day

We are so proud to have held our very first Point Force Group Family Day at the end of March, right here at our office and warehouse site and what a day it was!

As a company that has always had a genuine family feel at its core, the day was the perfect opportunity to celebrate that culture and bring our worlds a little closer together. For many of us, it was the first time our own families got to meet the faces behind the names they hear about at home, and it didn't disappoint.

The balloon artist was loved by the kids, the beers were loved by the adults and the bouncy castle was loved by all.

From the work ethic and warmth that our team brings every day, to the sense of community that makes this company feel like home, our Irish roots run deep and spread wide; from Melbourne to Meath, Sydney to Sligo & Brisbane to Belfast.
